The a²om BTEC is founded on a simple but compelling goal: to teach people to be safe drivers for life, and thus save young lives. Driving statistics tell us that 17-24 year old drivers are seriously over represented in accidents that have caused death and serious injury. The a²om BTEC in Driving Science provides a comprehensive novice driver programme, which results in a more-fully informed driver with a full appreciation of the factors that influence safety. The BTEC is delivered through practical driving lessons, but the e-learning suite can be accessed in the classroom in conjunction with PHSE/general studies courses.
Accredited by EdExcel and equivalent to a GCSE Level, the a²om BTEC in Driving Science is the world’s first academic qualification in novice driver training and your chance to be a pioneer in revolutionising young driver training. With 1 in 5 novice drivers having an accident in their first year of driving, a 21st century curriculum isn’t complete without some sort of driver education.
The a²om BTEC is done in-car and in the classroom. It follows the a²om driving curriculum, encompassing the European Goals for Driving Education, which is the most thorough novice driver programme in the UK.
‘I am delighted to see a²om’s national BTEC scheme bringing to the UK some of the most advanced learning from around the world. a²om is to be commended for its initiative to counter some of the significant problems affecting young drivers and their passengers, as well as delivering an academic and vocational qualification for the young driver that may also broaden the base of employment opportunity for those opting for the a²om course over a simple driving test’.

‘Being able to drive is an important route to employment, and should be embedded in our education system; driving well provides a route to continued employment - this breakthrough will give young people a chance in life which was just not there before’.
